About this tool
Reformats a block of text putting each sentence on its own line, breaking after every full stop. Useful for reading long texts like academic papers, contracts, e-books, or transcripts, where having each idea visually isolated makes comprehension and annotation easier.
How to use
- Paste the running text in the input.
- The result appears reformatted, with each sentence on a new line.
- Copy it into the editor where you want to work with the text.
Frequently asked questions
- Which punctuation triggers the line break?
- Only the full stop (period). Commas, semicolons, colons, and dashes don't trigger a new line. Question marks and exclamation marks may or may not count as sentence endings depending on the implementation.
- What about periods inside abbreviations, numbers, or email addresses?
- Those cases are tricky. Common abbreviations ("e.g.", "Mr.") or decimal numbers ("3.14") can be mistaken for sentence ends. Review the result after applying.
- Can I revert to running text?
- Not directly in this tool. To join everything back on one line, open the result in a text editor and replace line breaks with spaces.
