About this tool

Compresses images, reducing file size with adjustable quality. Useful for reducing image weight on websites (speeding up load times), sending by email within size limits, saving storage space, or meeting limits imposed by online forms that reject heavy files.

How to use

  1. Upload the original image.
  2. Adjust the quality level (higher quality = larger file).
  3. Compare original and compressed sizes in the preview.
  4. Download the compressed version.

Frequently asked questions

Does compression lose quality?
Depends. For JPEG and WebP, compression is lossy: lower quality = smaller file but more visual artefacts. For PNG, compression is lossless, only optimising internal structure. In photos, 70 to 80% quality is usually invisible to the eye. In images with sharp text or lines, low quality shows artefacts.
What quality should I use?
For photos on the web, 75 to 85% is the standard balance between quality and size. For small thumbnails, you can go down to 60 to 70% without noticeable loss. For critical images (book cover, product photo), stay around 85 to 90%. Always compare the preview before deciding.
Should I convert to WebP?
WebP compresses better than JPEG and PNG in most cases, with equivalent quality. It's the modern choice for web. Only watch out for older platforms that don't yet support WebP, although today support is universal in major browsers.
